Wolverine

Image at California Dept of Fish & Game

"Resembling a short-legged bear the wolverine is actually a member of the weasel family. It weighs 35-60 pounds and measures 35-45 inches long including its tail. It is very elusive and has a home range of several hundred square miles, making it difficult to study. Human disturbance and loss of habitat threaten its existence. It is California listed as threatened (since 1971)."

They prefer areas with low human disturbance, use caves, hollows in cliffs, logs, rock outcrops, and burrows for cover, generally in denser forest stages. In 1980 DFG estimated there are only 50 - 100 individuals living in California. California Department of Fish and Game
